Abstract
In 1779 Calum MacDonald was driven from his home and set sail from the Scottish Highlands with his family for Canada - 'the land of trees'. They become a clan, with their own identity and history. Alexander remembers the thrilling and passionate story intersected by history. He tells of his people and their battles, the land, endless Canadian winters, loggers, miners, drinkers, adventurers, men in exile, and all forever tied to their clan.
