Abstract
Polly, an orphan brought up by the Mormons, is part of their small band of pioneers struggling towards the Rocky Mountains in 1846. Here, they meet Major Dart Richards of the US Cavalry. Being a misfit like herself and a sceptic of the Mormon religion, he soon intrigues her and her him.
