Abstract
The book recalls the drama and confusion arising from the initial contacts between Europeans, Americans and the First Nations on Canada's West Coast. The hub was Friendly Cove in Nootka Sound where Chief Maquinna oversaw the wheeling 'n' dealing - and where modern British Columbia was born.
