Pipe organs were once a central (and sometimes hotly debated) part of Manitoba’s cultural life. The Organ in Manitoba portrays that history — the instruments, builders, players and critics — from the date of the earliest known installations to the 1990s, and includes information on musical organizations such as the Royal Canadian College of Organists. It documents over a century of evolution and changes, from concepts of tonal design to styles of musical commentary and tastes, and includes an inventory of installations and specifications for over 100 organs.

At The Turn Of The Twientieth Century, Winnipeg was the fastest-growing city in North America. But its days as a diverse and culturally rich metropolis did not end when the boom collapsed. Prairie Metropolis brings together some of the best new graduate research on the history of Winnipeg and makes a groundbreaking contribution to the history of the city between 1900 and the 1980s. The essays in this collection explore the development of social institutions such as the city's police force, juvenile court, health care institutions, volunteer organizations, and cultural centres.

An accomplished physicist, he wrote the first definitive text in English on mass spectroscopy, discovered the last stable isotope (platinum), and helped create important programs at universities and at the National Research Council.

Ian Stewart outlines the geographic, social, and political backdrop behind Jim Walding's contested party nomination and the unusual chain of events it triggered, including the fall of the government of Howard Pawley, the NDP's devastating defeat in the 1988 provincial election, and the fallout from these events on the wider Canadian political landscape.

My Parents: Memoirs of New World Icelanders is a collection of essays written by second-generation Icelandic immigrants in North America, describing the lives of their parents. Originally collected in 1956 by Dr. Finnbogi Gumundsson, the first Chair of Icelandic at the University of Manitoba, seven of the fourteen memoirs are translated here from Icelandic to English. They offer a rare first-hand look into the lives of New World immigrants of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
