Jack Nevin is an assistant to the Enchantress, a well-known stage magician in turn-of-the-nineteenth-century Europe. But when Jack's thievery catches up to them, they're forced to flee to America. However, they become overshadowed by Laszlo, a magician who defies imagination. Determined to learn Laszlo's tricks, Jack meets his assistant, Wilhelm, a boy who can seemingly perform real magic. As the rivalry between their master's grows, so too does Jack and Wilhelm's affection.
