  • Deportation of the Prince Edward Island Acadians

    Creator

    Lockerby, Earle

    Abstract

When the fortress of Louisbourg fell to the British in 1758, the Acadians of Prince Edward Island (then known as Île Saint-Jean) were deported, sent to an unknown land thousands of kilometres away. Shipwrecks and disease took a terrible toll during the voyage to France, as hundreds lost their lives. Earle Lockerby's account sheds new light on this tragic event, from its implementation to the experiences of the Acadians who eluded British troops and escaped to the mainland.

  • Noble illusions : young Canada goes to war

    Creator

    Dale, Stephen

    Abstract

One hundred years ago saw the declaration of a war that would forever change our understanding of war. With a staggering loss of life, World War One was, by all accounts, a brutal and devastating tragedy. One-hundred years later, countries around the world are preparing to commemorate the Great War not with regret but with nationalist pride. Conservative forces, already well into a program to elevate the place of the military in society, are embracing the opportunity to replace today's apparent cynicism with an unquestioning patriotism similar to that which existed a century ago.

  • Amerindia : essais d'ethnohistoire autochtone

    Creator

    Viau, Roland

    Abstract

  • Fermenting revolution how to drink beer and save the world

    Creator

    O'Brien, Christopher Mark

    Abstract

Fermenting Revolution delivers an empowering message about how individuals can change the world through the simple act of having a beer. It is also the first book to view all of the important trends in human history as fundamentally revolving around beer. Globalization pitches the corporate worldview that is essentially selfish, rewarding the few while demeaning the many and devastating nature, against the sustainability movement that calls for cooperation, the protection and celebration of nature and the nurturing of equitable communities. Beer exemplifies the struggle.
