The Discovering Canada series presents information, stories and activities to make Canadian history interesting to young people. Each of the eleven illustrated books focuses on a theme in Canadian history and includes primary source quotes, biographical details, vocabulary, activities and games. Enter the world of the fur traders and the First Peoples of Canada - when the quest for beaver pelts was opening up the Canadian frontier.

At the start of the Second World War, Poland was invaded by both the German and the Soviet armies. The country was unable to withstand the assaults and thousands of Polish soldiers and civilians were shipped to labour camps and prisons, where starvation, disease, and mistreatment were their daily expectations. With the signing of an amnesty between the Polish and Soviet governments in 1942, many of these soldiers were engaged in rebuilding the Polish army, and travelled through the Mideast to fight in the Italian campaign.

The Vikings deals with the earliest period of European exploration of Canada...Who were these adventurers? Where did they travel? What gods inspired them? Where did they live? How did they dress? What sports did they play?

Considéré comme la plus grande fête hivernale dans l'Ouest canadien, le Festival du Voyageur attire des dizaines de milliers de festivaliers qui viennent de partout dans le monde pour découvrir les coutumes de nos ancêtres-voyageurs qui ont jalonné à l'ouest du pays depuis le passage de La Vérendrye en 1734. C'est en 1969 que la communauté franco-manitobaine décide de jeter les bases d'une première fête d'hiver autour du thème historique, le voyageur.

They will learn about how people worked, dressed, ate and survived in New France.
