Abstract
In seventh-century Constantinople, Anna, former concubine of the emperor's disgraced brother, lives with her daughter. Then handsome alchemist Kallinokos arrives in Constantinople, working on a secret weapon that could save the city from the Arab fleet that might attack at any time. When he is arrested, Theodosia, Anna's daughter, tries to plead his case at court
