Abstract
Travelling by horse and canoe, Dawson was a groundbreaker in the Geological Survey's opening up of the Canadian West in the late 1800's. He was an avid photographer, amateur painter, poet and professional geologist. Over mountainous physical odds, he became one of the most respected Canadians.
