A thorough collection and examination of stories and perspectives from the Holocaust-related books of British Columbia authors, including nearly 100 black and white photographs. Holocaust witnesses will soon cease to exist. As Tolstoy famously put it—what is to be done? One answer is Out of Hiding—a cross-section of stories collected from one region of the globe, British Columbia, Canada—examining 85 authors and 160 books. Mining Camp Tales of the Silvery Slocan tells the often-overlooked story of British Columbia's silver rush and its accompanying boom towns. In the 1890s, mining camps like Sandon, Three Forks, Whitewater and their neighbours, New Denver, Silverton, Slocan City, Kaslo and Nakusp, thrived. Prospectors and miners from Idaho, Montana, and other mining centres arrived in droves to reap the silver harvest. Capitalists flooded in from Spokane, Seattle, Vancouver, and from investment centres across North America and the world.

No matter where people live on the BC coast, says Howard White, they have certain shared experiences: frustration with rain and ferries, familiarity with gumboots, bumbershoots, seagull droppings and barnacles in the wrong places. But each little community clings to its own sense of uniqueness and considers itself the true West Coast. In Our Youth explores the lives of thirty-two young Canadian military and civilian flyers, viewed through the medium of archival photography. All of these young men were pilots in the First World War, a time when flying was pure adventure and danger.

Rock art—etched in blood-red lines into granite cliffs, boulders, and caves—appears as beguiling, graffiti-like abstraction. What are these signs? The petroglyphs and red-ochre pictographs found across Nłeʔkepmx territory in present-day British Columbia and Washington State are far more than ancient motifs. Signs of the Time explores the historical and cultural reasons for making rock art. Chris Arnett draws on extensive research and decades of work with Nłeʔkepmx people to document the variability and similarity of practices.

Collected wisdoms, reflections and stories from Indigenous Elder Naanii Nora of the Haida Nation. So You Girls Remember That is an oral history of a Haida Elder, Naanii Nora, who lived from 1902 to 1997. A collaborative effort, this project was initiated and guided by Charlie Bellis and Maureen McNamara and was years in the making.
